Aedean Mitra (b. 1999) is a self-taught mixed media artist and poet based in Makati, Philippines, whose abstract works on canvas and paper channel the shifting energies of bipolar disorder into art. Drawing from both depressive depths and manic bursts, he transforms emotional turmoil into vivid, sculptural, and meditative compositions that often merge with poetry and inspirations from nature. His practice explores the tension between contrasting elements, tones, and themes—offering a voice on mental illness and awareness of one’s inner being through self-inquiry. Mitra aims to spark dialogue with viewers as they recognize their own inner states in his work, collaborating in shared reflection: “In this way,” Mitra says, “the viewers complete the artwork, engaging in the wordless communication between souls; transcending language, pushing boundaries.”
